Creating and Managing a Route
What is a Route?
In Viratrip, a route is a geolocated track that you draw on a map. It can be associated with an event to guide participants with GPS navigation.
A route contains:
- A track with ordered waypoints
- Automatic statistics (distance, elevation, estimated duration)
- A privacy level (All club members, Administrators only)
- Tags for categorisation
- Optional photos
Creating a Route from the Map
From the Web
- Sign in at app.viratrip.com
- Go to Routes > + Create a route
- The map editor opens
Placing Waypoints
On the map, click to place each waypoint in order. The app automatically traces the road between points following existing roads.
- Address search: use the search bar to precisely locate a point
- Satellite view: switch to satellite view to identify scenic small roads
- Move a point: click and drag an existing waypoint
- Delete a point: click the point, then the delete icon
- Insert a point: click on the track to add an intermediate waypoint that you can drag to reposition
Statistics (distance, duration) update in real time with each change.

Waypoints and Points of Interest
A waypoint is a marker positioned on the route. They define the track and the app calculates the road path between them.
You can name important waypoints to indicate landmarks for participants (e.g. “Start parking”, “Refreshment stop”, “Panoramic view”).
Route Privacy
| Mode | Access |
|---|---|
| All club members | Visible to all club members |
| Administrators only | Visible only to administrators of the owning club |
Collaborative Editing
Multiple club administrators can edit a route simultaneously.
When you open a route for editing, a real-time indicator shows other collaborators currently connected. Changes are synchronised instantly.
Route Statistics
The app automatically calculates:
| Statistic | Description |
|---|---|
| Distance | Total route length in km |
| Elevation gain | Total ascent in metres |
| Elevation loss | Total descent in metres |
| Estimated duration | Calculated based on distance and profile |
